Nearly a year into his tenure at Balenciaga, Pierpaolo Piccioli is beginning to reveal what his vision for the house might become. Titled Unsized, Spring 2027 explores what happens when clothing is freed from the constraints of conventional sizing, allowing garments to adapt to the body rather than asking the body to conform to them.

Throughout the collection, silhouettes expand, collapse, drape and gather through ribbons of fabric and subtle adjustments, creating clothes that feel fluid rather than fixed. The result is a wardrobe defined less by structure and more by movement, where garments respond to the individual wearing them.

Piccioli's study of Cristóbal Balenciaga's archive is evident throughout. Familiar house signatures, from cocoon shapes to sculptural volume, reappear not as nostalgic references but as contemporary propositions. Eveningwear borrows from the ease of everyday clothing, while tailoring, denim and technical fabrics sit comfortably alongside more traditionally formal pieces.

What makes Unsized compelling is its sense of ease. Rather than treating fashion as something rigid or prescriptive, Piccioli proposes clothing as a conversation between garment and wearer. It is Balenciaga viewed through a softer lens, one that prioritises movement, adaptability and personal expression over spectacle alone.
